1915 Smith Motor Wheel

1915 Smith Motor Wheel

The Smith Motor Wheel was a low cost way to add mechanical power to bicycles and carts. For around $80, the company claimed a cyclist could attach the Motor Wheel to their bicycle in five minutes and soon be reaching speeds up to 20 miles per hour. Smith sold thousands of Motor Wheels from 1915-1919. In 1919, Smith sold the Motor Wheel business to Briggs & Stratton so Smith could focus on its more lucrative business building automobile frames.
